IP Multimedia Subsystem?

Postby mikouaj » 13 Nov 2009, 16:16

Anyone interested in future telephony from mobile perspective ? It is obvious that CS voice services that are main area of mobile operators are no longer that profitable, as well as PS data subcriptions. Mobile operators have to introduce new, convergent IP services if they don't want to be limited to role of internet pipe providers - SIP based IMS architecture can be an answer here.

Definitely I agree! What's more, I think that the future telephony is all about the SIP IMS (even not only in a "mobile" context). SIP IMS architecture is used now as reference by major IP telephony vendors.

As an example we can take Avaya Aura Solution:
  • Session Manager as the core routing/session control engine/proxy/application sequencing
  • Modular Messaging/Communication Manager as the application servers
  • SIP gateways, SIP IP phones as an access layer
